Hello All
we've noticed at my company an issue that's coming up with a number of computers that we have.

After they are upgraded to 24H2 when you go to start and begin typing in anything even as simple as Control Panel or CMD it just starts doing a search and never stops it never finds anything and it shows no error messages

#1

we have tried the following:
delete the %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Packages\MicrosoftWindows.Client.CBS_cw5n1h2txyewy contents of folder start Registry Editor, and then navigate to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search subkey.

Delete the Search registry key

right click on windows run type powershell PowerShell Window, and then run the following cmdlet based on your Windows version Add-AppxPackage -Path "C:\Windows\SystemApps\MicrosoftWindows.Client.CBS_cw5n1h2txyewy\Appxmanifest.xml" -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register

Restart the computer

This worked for a couple days but the problem returned

#2

if you do the following

go to Task Manager>> Details and Right click and end task it will work until you reboot

but we are looking for a more permanent solution

has anyone seen this issue? anyone have anything that actually works?

    Welcome Lynn Pulte,

I understand how frustrating it can be after upgrading multiple devices to Windows 11 24H2, Start Menu search enters a continuous loading state and does not return results, while temporarily recovering after resetting the Search package or terminating the related process.

Before proceeding, could you please clarify:

    • Are the affected devices using roaming profiles, folder redirection, FSLogix, or any profile management solution?
    • Does the issue occur for newly created local administrator accounts on the same device?
    • Is this machine joined to a domain, or is each machine just a personal device?

Besides, similar Start/Search issues have been reported by other users after Windows 11 updates, you can check this link: Windows update 24H2 Windows start search not working - Microsoft Q&A

    Looking forward to your response.
