For rewrite in Word, use this path first:

    1. Select the text.
    2. In the left margin next to the text, select the Copilot icon.
    3. Select Auto Rewrite.
    4. Review the rewritten options.
    5. Use Replace, Insert below, or Regenerate.

If the rewrite area is blank, use the built-in alternate flow for Word with keyboard access:

    1. Select the text.
    2. Press Alt+I.
    3. Select Rewrite with Copilot.
    4. Review the suggestions.
    5. If needed, use Regenerate to generate a new response.
    6. Choose Replace or Insert below.

If the Copilot icon itself is missing in Word, these steps are documented in a matching support case:

    1. Reinstall Microsoft 365 so Word has the latest Copilot-integrated build.
    2. In Word, go to File > Account > Account Privacy > Manage Settings.
    3. Make sure these are enabled:
      • Experiences that analyze your content
      • All connected experiences
    4. Restart Word and test rewrite again.

If the issue is in OneNote instead of Word, use the Copilot pane flow:

    1. Select the text.
    2. Open the Copilot pane from the ribbon, or press Alt+H+F+X with a screen reader workflow.
    3. Enter a prompt such as Rewrite and specify how the text should change.
    4. Send the prompt.
    5. Copy the rewritten result from the Copilot pane and paste it back into the note.
