I'm using Microsoft Word on a MacBook Air with an Apple M1 chip. Word consistently fails to save documents. Apple Support has already determined the issue is not with macOS, and my university IT spent four weeks attempting to fix it without success. I need help identifying whether this is a licensing, profile, or Word installation issue. Microsoft 365 told me to contact my school to help since the microsoft word account is through my school. Please advise.

I'm so sorry about this inconvenience. Since this is a school-issued Microsoft 365 account, could you also confirm whether your account is assigned a Microsoft 365 Education A1, A3, or A5 license?

I'd like to gather a few additional details to help determine whether the issue is related to Word, licensing, or your user profile.

Could you please provide:

Your macOS version (Apple menu → About This Mac)
Your Microsoft Word version (Open Word → Word menu → About Microsoft Word)
The exact error message you receive when attempting to save a document (a screenshot would be helpful if available).
Does this happen when saving to your local Desktop/Documents folder or to OneDrive or SharePoint
And this happens to all Word documents or only specific documents, newly created blank documents as well

Once we have the macOS version, Word version, and the save error details, we can better determine whether the problem is related to your Microsoft 365 account, Word installation, Office credentials, or your macOS user profile.

Microsoft Apple M1. Microsoft Word for Mac. It happens when I save to documents, one drive.

When I try to save a document, this is the message I get. "The save failed due to out of memory or disk space."

You can check the subscription details via https://portal.office.com/account/?ref=Harmony#subscriptions

Since the error message indicates a potential storage shortage, please check the following and let us know the results:

Mac storage: Apple Menu  → System Settings → General → Storage.

OneDrive storage: Sign in to OneDrive on the web or open the OneDrive app and check your available storage and whether there are any sync errors.

Thanks for the information. Now, since the error indicates a possible storage-related issue, please check both your OneDrive storage and local Mac storage.

After that, please create a new document in Word Online (web version) and try saving it there.

This will help determine whether the issue is specific to the Word desktop client on your Mac or if it is related to your Microsoft 365 account/storage.
