Using New Outlook on Windows for professional communication and productivity
Dear @Upik,
I understand how frustrating it is when your mobile device receives emails instantly, but your New Outlook desktop application lags behind by 30 minutes or stops updating even after clicking refresh.
Because the New Outlook for Windows is built on web-based architecture, it relies on a continuous background sync connection to Microsoft servers rather than traditional scheduled polling intervals. When Windows power-saving features, background data restrictions, or local sync caches stall that connection, new messages fail to drop in until a full session reset occurs.
Step 1: Force a Manual Connection Reset
To immediately break the stall without restarting the app:
- Press F9 on your keyboard, or go to the View tab in New Outlook and click Sync.
- If the sync still fails, completely close the application, open Task Manager (
Ctrl + Shift + Esc), end any active Outlook processes, and reopen it.
Step 2: Disable Offline Mode / Check Sync Status
- In New Outlook, go to Settings (gear icon) > General > Offline.
- Verify that your offline settings are not restricting immediate synchronization.
Step 4: Repair or Reset the App
If the issue is caused by corrupted application data:
- Open Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Locate Outlook (New) > click Advanced options.
- Click Repair. If the issue persists after testing, return to this menu and click Reset.

Step 5: Re-authenticate Your Account
- In New Outlook, open Settings > Accounts > Email accounts.
- Check if your account status displays "Needs Attention" or "Disconnected".
- Select Remove, restart Outlook, click Add Account, and sign back in to re-establish the connection token.
Please try disabling the Offline setting and allowing background execution first to restore instant email delivery.
