Teams - I cannot remove the background

For just over a week, I have been unable to remove the background on teams to just show the wall behind me (whether blurred or not)

I am using a MacBook with an up-to-date operating system. I am using the camera on the Mac Book. The camera works fine with zoom.

Can you please help?

    Hi,

Since your MacBook camera works normally in Zoom, the issue is likely related to Microsoft Teams settings, cached video/background configurations, or a recent Teams update, rather than the camera hardware itself.

To help resolve the issue, please try the following steps:

1/ Turn off Background Effects in Teams:

First, check whether a background effect is enabled in Teams and disable it.

    Before joining a meeting:

    • Open the Teams desktop app.
    • Navigate to your meeting and select Join.
    • Turn on your camera.
    • Select Effects and avatars.
    • Choose None.
    • Click Apply.

    During a meeting:

    • Select More actions (...).
    • Go to Video effects and settings > Video effects.
    • Select None.
    • Click Apply.

This will remove any background effects that may be causing the issue.

2/ Verify whether the feature is available:

If you do not see the background settings or if selecting None does not take effect, please note that Microsoft indicates some video effect features may not be available on certain devices or configurations.

    3/ Update Microsoft Teams:

Additionally, please ensure that Teams is running the latest version:

    • Open Teams.
    • Select Settings and more next to your profile picture.
    • Click Check for updates.
    • Once the update is complete, fully quit and reopen Teams.

Keeping Teams up to date can often resolve unexpected camera and video-related issues.

4/ Clear the Teams cache on macOS:

If the issue persists, clearing the Teams cache may help remove any corrupted settings or cached data.

Please follow Microsoft's instructions here: Clear the Teams client cache, and then restart Teams afterward.

5/ Confirm camera permissions in macOS:

It is also worth verifying that Teams has the necessary camera permissions:

    • Open System Settings on your Mac.
    • Navigate to Privacy & Security.
    • Select Camera.
    • Ensure Microsoft Teams is enabled.
    • Restart Teams and test the camera again.

6/ Test Teams in a browser or a new macOS user profile:

If the problem continues, please try using Teams in a web browser or under a temporary new macOS user profile.

If background effects can be removed successfully in either environment, this would suggest the issue is related to your local Teams profile or cached settings on the Mac rather than the Teams service itself.

If the issue still occurs, it would be helpful to know: your macOS version, your Teams version, whether you are using New Teams or Classic Teams, whether the None option is visible but does not apply, or if the option is missing entirely

This information will help me determine whether the issue is related to the Teams client, a policy configuration, or a known issue with the current Teams build on macOS.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to reach out. I’ll be happy to continue working with you until we get this resolved, and I look forward to your update.
