Using Publisher after October 1 2026

Unfortunately, you will not be able to continue using Publisher through a Microsoft 365 subscription after October 1, 2026. Publisher will be removed from Microsoft 365, and subscribers will no longer be able to open or edit .pub files in the Publisher app. There is no subscription setting or supported workaround that will keep it active.

Before that date, it is recommended that you convert important Publisher files. Open each file, select File > Save As, and save a PDF copy for viewing or printing. If you need to edit the content later, Word can open the PDF and convert it into an editable document, although complex layouts may change. A PowerShell conversion script is also available for people with many .pub files.

A perpetual, one-time-purchase version of Publisher can still be installed and used after October 1, but it will be unsupported and will not receive updates. It is not included with your Microsoft 365 subscription. For future projects, Word or PowerPoint are the recommended alternatives. See Publisher retirement guidance.
