Hi

I seem to have 2 different outlook accounts going on and can't figure out what happened. When I use the outlook app on my computer, my G forwards. When I used Live, I get this long series of letters and [PII: Removed]@outlook.com.

My husband and I had a shared calendar till about mid June. I am not sure what the heck I did, but it stopped working. Now when we try to share we can both see the other but never edit. Yes, we make sure to share with edit responsibilities. I saw one question that talked about closing the account, ours if a family account and both our daughters are also attached. I am hoping if I get this issue fixed that we can have a family shared Calander on our phones. Life would be so much nicer.

Hi Debra Bartleson

Please reply with only these details if it still does not work:

  • Are both of you signing in with Outlook.com/Hotmail/Live Microsoft accounts, or is one person accepting with Gmail only?
  • Are you trying to edit the shared calendar from Outlook.com on the web, Outlook for Windows, or a phone?
  • Is the calendar owned by you, your husband, or a family/shared account?

Please try the steps below:

1) Check which account owns the calendar

Sign in to Outlook.com Calendar with the Microsoft account that originally created the shared calendar.

The Gmail account added in the Outlook app and the Outlook.com/Live account may be separate accounts, so the calendar may not be under the same account you are viewing in the desktop Outlook app.

2) Use Outlook.com on the web to fix sharing

For Outlook.com personal accounts, manage the shared calendar from Outlook.com on the web, not from the desktop Outlook app.

3) Remove the old broken sharing permission

In Outlook.com Calendar, go to: Calendar > under My calendars, right-click the shared calendar > Sharing and permissions. Then remove the other person from the sharing list and save/close.

4) Remove the old shared calendar from the other person’s account

On the other person’s Outlook.com calendar page, right-click the old shared calendar in the left pane and remove it from the calendar list. This helps prevent them from using an old cached copy that no longer updates correctly.

5) Share the calendar again with edit permission

From the calendar owner’s Outlook.com account, go to: Calendar > Share calendar > choose the correct calendar > enter the other person’s Microsoft account email > choose Can edit > Share

Important: If the other person uses Gmail, non-Outlook.com users can only accept the shared calendar invitation by using an Outlook.com or Microsoft 365 account. If they accept only as a Gmail calendar/ICS link, it will be read-only and they will not be able to edit.

6) Create a new family calendar if the old one is damaged

If the old shared calendar still cannot be edited after re-sharing, create a new blank calendar in Outlook.com and share that new calendar with each family member using Can edit permission.

See: Create additional calendars | Microsoft Support

7) Use the same Microsoft account on phones

After the calendar works correctly in Outlook.com on the web, add the same Outlook.com/Microsoft account to the Outlook mobile app on each phone. Do not add only the Gmail account if the shared calendar belongs to the Outlook.com/Live account.

8) Avoid closing the account

Do not close the Microsoft account just to fix the calendar. If the account is connected to family features or other Microsoft services, closing it can affect access to those services. It is better to repair the calendar sharing or create a new shared calendar first.

Please tell me how it goes. If the problem persists, please don’t hesitate to reply to this thread and I will be happy to help. Have a lovely day!
