Uninstalling and reinstalling fixed it! Thank you for trying to help me. (Had to wait 45 minutes for the download, I live in the country!)

Which version of macOS do you have? If you are having licensing problems on your Mac, you need to upgrade macOS to Monterey or later. See https://www.brandwares.com/bestpractices/2023/03/most-recent-office-you-can-run-best-practices/.

    I have Tahoe.

So your macOS is fully updated; that is good.

What does the error message say? Do you see sync errors with OneDrive? Read more at https://support.microsoft.com/en-US/onedrive/fix-onedrive-sync-problems .

When I open a new doc, it asks me to sign in. When I do, I get this message: An unknown error has occurred. The error code is: 0x0

Is this when you create a new document or when you try to open existing ones?

Which version of Office do you have? A subscription such as Microsoft 365 Personal? Or are you using the web version of Word?

New or existing files open but won't accept the text I am trying to paste. They have a notice on top to connect but when I follow that, I get the error message. I have Microsoft 365 Personal. It renews next month on my annual plan.

Thanks for the follow-up. This suggests that the account you are trying to use doesn't have edit access. Just to be clear, this happens with documents that you create yourself (not just with documents shared with you by other people)?

Is the OneDrive account you are using available?

If you explicitly save a document on your PC's hard drive, do you get the same errors?
