I am unable to record my own meeting or access the recording button on a meeting set up by another user.

When selecting "Plans and Upgrades" under setting, it is indicated that my license supports recording. MS Teams license Screenshot 2026-07-27 142949

In addition to not being able to record my own meetings, I cannot access recording controls for a meeting set up by another organization. I had an interview where I was supposed to join a Teams meeting and record my answers to several questions. I could not participate.

Searching the web yields info saying only a business license can record. The screen shot above says I should. What gives?

The option to record a call or a meeting should be available at the top of the call screen.

Note that at least one another user must be on the call with audio/video enabled. If the person who is trying to start recording does not have any Microsoft 365 subscription, the message "Upgrade to record" will be shown.

You should be able to record your own meetings. This feature was added to Teams Personal accounts by December last year.

However, if you are participating in a meeting created by a Business/Enterprise account, this feature might be restricted.
