A problem started after installing update KB5100998

Hi.

I use a dual-monitor setup on my PC.

A problem started after installing update KB5100998. The second monitor stopped turning on automatically when the computer starts up; it flickers while the main monitor is powering on. To get it working, I have to manually toggle its power button off and on again.

Uninstalling KB5100998 resolves the issue, and everything works normally.

I should mention that I have two dual-monitor PC setups, and both experience the same issue with update KB5100998—and in both cases, uninstalling the update fixes the problem.

BUT Windows reinstalls the update a couple of days later.

Hi, good day!

Since you've been able to reproduce the issue on two different dual-monitor setups and confirmed that uninstalling KB5100998 resolves it, I recommend submitting feedback through the Feedback Hub app to notify the Windows engineering team. When submitting your feedback, include the update number (KB5100998), describe the monitor behavior, and mention that the issue affects multiple PCs but is resolved after uninstalling the update. If possible, attach screenshots or a short video demonstrating the issue.

In the meantime, you may want to temporarily pause Windows Updates to prevent KB5100998 from being automatically reinstalled while the issue is being investigated. Once a fix or a revised update becomes available, you can resume updates to keep your device protected and up to date.

    Hello!

I have seen this a couple times and the place where I work when we run an update to a new version of windows. Have you tried clearing the Graphics Registry, here is how you do it below, another user had a similar issue with a different update and this helped them. It may be able to help with this situation too:

Clear registry display cache: Press Win + R, type regedit, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers, and delete the Configuration, Connectivity, and ScaleFactors folders, then restart.
