When trying to edit a Word document with Co Pilot a message appears saying there is something wrong. I deleted the entire collection of 365 apps, Shut Down my Mac, Rebooted the Mac, re-installed 365 operating software and starting using Word again, None of those things listed about, and still getting the message. I updated Word and also Excel and checked for updates and completed that. Problem still does not work. What can I do to fix this problem,

Thank you,

Ed

For Word on Mac, the supported fixes in the provided guidance are:

  1. Refresh the Microsoft 365 license
    • Open Word.
    • Select Word on the menu bar.
    • Select About Word.
    • Select More Info....
    • Select Refresh License.
    • Close any open documents and restart all Microsoft 365 apps.
  2. Check Word privacy settings Copilot may not appear or work if these settings are off.
    • Open Word.
    • Select Word > Preferences > Privacy.
    • Confirm Experiences that analyze your content is turned on.
    • Confirm All connected experiences is turned on.
    • If Microsoft 365 is managed by an organization, these settings may be controlled by IT.
  3. Make sure Word for Mac is on the latest build The Mac guidance for missing or non-working Copilot features requires the latest Office build.
  4. Verify the account and license Copilot in Word is available only when signed in with an account that has a Copilot license. The available licenses listed in the guidance include:
    • Microsoft 365 Copilot (for Organizations)
    • Microsoft 365 Premium (for Individuals)
    • Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, or Premium (coming soon)
  5. If the issue is specifically license validation related On the web, blocked third-party cookies can prevent Copilot from validating the license. If the error is a validation error and the problem continues after the steps above, home users should contact Support. Business users should check with the Microsoft 365 admin, who can contact Microsoft support.

Since reinstalling and updating were already done, the next most relevant steps are Refresh License, then check the two Privacy settings, then confirm the signed-in account actually has a Copilot-eligible license.
