I am using the web-based version of Visio. How do I assign a hyperlink to a phrase within a text box?

Good day,

In Visio for the web, it is not currently possible to assign a hyperlink to a specific word or phrase within a larger text box. Hyperlinks can only be applied to an entire shape, including a text box shape, rather than to selected text within that shape.

Workaround: Create a separate text box for the linked phrase

If you want only a particular phrase to function as a hyperlink, you can:

  • Select Insert > Text Box.
  • Create a small text box containing only the text you want to link.
  • Format the text to resemble a hyperlink (for example, blue and underlined).
  • Select the text box.
  • Choose Insert > Link
  • Enter the desired URL or destination.
  • Select OK to save the hyperlink.

This approach effectively emulates a text hyperlink by applying the link to a separate text box shape.
