Unable to re-active subscription on one MacBook Pro - error 0x0. Tried online help - no change

For some unknown reason, I was signed out of my online Microsoft Office 260 subscription on one laptop. When I try to sign back in, it gives me error 0x0 right after entering my email address (user name). I have spent hours online following instructions to resolve but nothing works. It does not appear to be a subscription issue since a second laptop works fine. MacOS is Sequoia 15.7.7 and Word version is 16.81. Tried running an update but it generates an error message as well - and the only update that shows up is dated 2018 (??).

The latest Office for Mac release is version 16.111.1

Yours is quite outdated, so it may not even be possible to simply update it.

Uninstall your Office apps and reinstall.

If you subscribed via Apple, reinstall from the App Store.

If you subscribed from Microsoft, Please go to https://www.office.com

Sign into the Microsoft account you used for the subscription. Click on the 9-dot icon on the upper left > More apps.

Then on the upper right, click on "Install apps". This will now download the installer file. Once downloaded, click on the file to install. It will install the Desktop version of the apps for you then.
