Clarification on email OTP for action group

Hello,

I received this email recently (truncated): "New email recipients must be verified for Azure Monitor action groups

You’re receiving this notification because you’re associated with one or more Azure subscriptions that currently use Azure Monitor action groups.

Starting as early as 17 July 2026, Azure Monitor action groups will begin a progressive regional rollout that requires one-time passcode (OTP) verification for new email addresses added to new or existing action groups before those email recipients can receive notifications."

I am curious if this applies solely to emails linked to an action group via the "Email/SMS message/Push/Voice" notification type, or if this applies also to any email addresses being notified via a logic app. For more context, my team utilizes a logic app with an office connection to send emails to alert recipients (emails are stored in a json config) and would like clarity on whether our recipients will also need to complete this OTP. Thanks!

Hi,

This applies only to action groups notifications as previously you could add e-mails without the owners of those e-mails being able to verify that they agree to be in the action group. That was abused by some tenants so thus the new rule. Logic apps with the office connection you will need to provide credentials to your own office 365 instances in order to use it so such restriction does not exists there.
