The quickest way is to check Installed apps. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, then look for any entries beginning with "McAfee," such as McAfee LiveSafe, McAfee Total Protection, McAfee WebAdvisor, or McAfee Security. If none are listed, the software is not installed.
You can also check Windows Security. Open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection. Under "Who is protecting me?" or "Manage providers," confirm that Microsoft Defender Antivirus is the active antivirus provider. If McAfee is installed and active, it will normally appear as the antivirus provider instead of Microsoft Defender.
For a final check, open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and look for McAfee-related processes or services, or open Services (services.msc) and verify there are no services with names beginning with "McAfee" or "McAfee Framework." If none are present and Microsoft Defender is the active antivirus, McAfee is not installed or running.
