Welcome Gretel Butac,
I understand how frustrating it can be when you accidentally saved a new file over an existing file and are now trying to recover the previous version.
Before proceeding, could you please clarify:
- What type of file was overwritten (Word document, Excel file, PDF, image, etc.)?
- Was the file stored locally on your PC, OneDrive, or another cloud/storage location?
In the meantime, you can try these steps below to troubleshoot the issue:
Option 1: Check Previous Versions
- Right-click the file
- Select Properties
- Open the Previous Versions tab
- If older versions are listed, select one and choose Restore or Open.
Option 2: Check OneDrive Version History (if the file was stored in OneDrive)
- Sign in to OneDrive online
- Locate the file
- Right-click it and select Version History
- Restore an earlier version if available
Option 3: Check File History
- Open Control Panel from the Start menu
- Select File History
- Choose Restore personal files
- Browse for the folder and look for an earlier copy
Option 4: Check Recycle Bin
- If a backup or earlier copy was created automatically, it may still be available there
I hope the steps above help you deal with your issue.
