Copilot in PowerPoint is available only with an eligible Microsoft 365 subscription and/or a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, depending on the feature.
Supported PowerPoint apps in the provided documentation include:
- PowerPoint for Microsoft 365
- PowerPoint for Microsoft 365 for Mac
- Microsoft365.com
- PowerPoint for iPad
- PowerPoint mobile on iPhone, Android phones, and Android tablets for eligible users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot work or school license
To use Copilot in PowerPoint on desktop or web:
- Open PowerPoint.
- Open a presentation or create a new one.
- Select the Copilot button from the ribbon.
- Use prompts such as:
- Summarize this presentation
- Show key slides
- Show action items
If Copilot does not appear in PowerPoint desktop, one documented cause is the Microsoft 365 Apps update channel. In that case, Copilot in PowerPoint works only when Office is on the Current Channel or Monthly Enterprise Channel. If the device is on the Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel, PowerPoint can redirect instead of launching Copilot. In that scenario, the organization’s IT admin needs to switch the update channel and then update Office.
On mobile:
- Open the PowerPoint app and select a shared presentation.
- Tap Get Summary from Copilot for a summary, or tap Copilot and use the Sparkle icon to access prompts such as Show key slides.
