Building and customizing solutions using Microsoft 365 Copilot APIs and tools
If personalization is off, Copilot should forget its memories of conversations. Past conversations can still remain visible, but future responses should no longer be personalized.
To remove what Copilot remembers and verify it:
- Ask Copilot: What do you know about me?
- Delete specific remembered items by asking Copilot to forget them, or delete everything from memory:
- Select the profile icon
- Select Memory
- Select Delete all Memory
- Make sure personalization is turned off in the app being used:
- copilot.com: Profile icon > profile name > Privacy > Personalization
- Copilot for Windows and macOS: Profile icon > Settings > Privacy > Personalization
- Copilot mobile app: Menu > profile icon > Account > Privacy > Personalization
- Ask again: What do you know about me? to confirm the change.
If specific conversations are still influencing responses, delete those conversations from conversation history. Turning off personalization removes memories, but past conversations can still be viewable in history.
If the goal is to clear Copilot interaction history, that can also be cleared from the Microsoft account privacy area:
- Go to myaccount.microsoft.com
- Open Settings & Privacy
- Select the Privacy tab
- Open Copilot interaction history
- Use the option to clear history
For Microsoft 365 Copilot Memory, fully deleting something Copilot knows can require two steps:
- Delete the saved memory from Chat settings.
- Delete memory inferred from chat history by switching off the Chat history personalization setting, or by contacting the IT admin.
If direct support is needed, live support can be reached through Microsoft Support by using the public Contact - Microsoft Support flow and choosing Contact Support or requesting a callback.
