Startups: Companies that are in their initial stages of business and typically developing a business model and seeking financing.
The most common reasons for being marked ineligible for the $1,000 Azure startup credit are:
- The account does not meet the new Azure customer requirement.
- For the Azure startup credit offer, eligibility requires a new Azure customer account.
- Having 0 subscriptions currently visible does not always prove the account has no prior Azure history.
- The account type or offer flow is not the correct one.
- The startup credit offer and the investor offer are different programs.
- If applying for the $1,000 starter credit, the application must follow the Azure startup credit flow.
- If applying through Microsoft for Startups with an investor referral code, that is a separate offer with different benefits.
- Eligibility or verification requirements are incomplete.
- Startup benefits can fail if verification is not complete.
- The account may have already redeemed the same startup benefit before.
- Some startup benefits cannot be redeemed again on the same account.
What to do next:
- Wait up to 24 hours if the Azure account was just created.
- Credit balance and account setup can take time to fully update after account creation.
- Confirm the correct application path.
- Go to https://startups.microsoft.com and select Get started.
- Complete the Microsoft for Startups application.
- If there is an investor referral code, enter it during the application.
- If already approved or able to access the portal, check support options in the Azure Portal.
- In the Azure Portal, use Get Program Support under the Your Microsoft Team tile.
- Program Support handles onboarding, Azure credit activation, benefit redemption, billing profile issues, entitlement corrections, and portal access problems.
- If the issue is specifically with the application process, use the program support channel listed for application help:
- If the problem is an Azure account or technical issue after account setup, submit a support request through the Azure Portal.
Important limitation:
- Program Support can clarify eligibility and next steps, but cannot override eligibility decisions.
