Visio - On certain Visio documents my connectors are partially invisible and will not connect where I drag it.

On certain Visio documents that behaved normally before now, when I drag a connector between 2 points, my line shows while I hold with my mouse but when I let go the connector snaps bacl t the starting shape and becomes a right angle. When I try to grab and drag this, it may drag but only partially is visible. Or it creates other bends and connects to other parts of the diagram. Pic #1 shows when I drag the original connector. 2. Hi JD,

From your screenshots, the connector is visible while dragging, but after release Visio is treating the connector as an auto routed connecter and either failing to glue the far end or rerouting it back near the source shape. With your information that it happens only in certain drawings, I suspect this may be a Snap & Glue setting issue or a document/page connector behavior.

When you select one of the problem connectors, does the endpoint turn green/glued at both ends or does only the starting side appear glued?

If only the starting side is glued:
- Go to View > Visual Aids > click the small dialog launcher arrow
- On the General tab, enable Glue and temporarily turn off Snap for testing
- Under Glue to, enable Connection points, Shape geometry and Shape handles > OK
- Try connecting again
If both ends are glued but the connector still rerouted:
- Go to File > Options > Customize Ribbon and check Developer tab
- Select the problem connector > go to Developer > Behavior > Connector tab
- Set Reroute to Never and uncheck Connector can be split by changes if available

Thank you for the suggestion as this all makes sense but unfortunately, this did not resolve my issue. I tried connecting two points and I still get the "invisible" section of the connector or it snaps back to an 'L' shape on the 1st shape. Just to let you know, I worked for the last few years problem free. It seems like over the last 6 months every other Visio document I create or go oback and work on gives me this same issue. Please note, do see green dots at each end when I select the connector.

Thank you for your prompt update.

If you see the green dots at both ends and it's used to work properly until the last 6 months, you can try checking add-ins and repair Visio to see if it works

1/ Start Visio in Safe mode

Completely close Visio

Press Windows + R to open Run dialog > type visio /safe > OK to run

Open one affected document and test whether the connector works properly there. If it works, the issue is likely due to an add-in

Then go to File > Options > Add-ins > select COM Add-ins > Go > uncheck all listed add-ins and click OK

Restart Visio and check if the error is gone. Then re-enable the add-ins one by one and restarting Visio each time to find which one causes the problem

2/ Repair Visio

Since Visio can be installed as part of Microsoft Office suite or as a standalone Office app, the repair is done through the normal Office repair tool:

Close all Office apps including Visio

Go to Settings (or you can press Windows + I) > Apps > Installed Apps.

If you installed Visio together with the Office suite, find Microsoft 365/Office Apps. If you use standalone Visio app, find Microsoft Visio

Select the three dots (…) next to it and choose Modify > if prompted by User Account Control, select Yes.

Run Quick Repair first. If the issue persists, run Online Repair later.

Note: This process requires stable internet connection and may take several minutes to complete.

I started Visio in safe mode, followed instructions for add-ons and found a PDF maker was the only add-on. Unchecked this, restarted and no change. Tried #2 to repair this app. I only see one repair choice and it took around 15 minutes to run through the repair. No change for this issue. I appreciate the suggestions though. Any other suggestions? I saw a very similar question with screenshots from July 6th 2021. Exact issue I have but there was no resolution for this except to copy the work, open a new Visio instance and dump paste into this. This did seem to resolve the issue but copying/pasting into a new instance of Visio causes formatting changes and it takes time to reformat so I do not consider this a viable resolution to this problem. I am using: Microsoft® Visio® Plan 2 MSO (Version 2606 Build 16.0.20131.20152) 64-bit
