Azure sign-up from Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub shows "You're not eligible for an Azure free account"

Hello,

I am trying to redeem the Azure benefit from Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub.

When I click "Complete Azure sign-up" from the Founders Hub Azure benefit page, it redirects me to Azure account creation.

I completed the required steps:

  • Added a valid Visa credit card
  • Completed phone verification
  • Confirmed my information

However, after submitting the information, Azure shows:

"You're not eligible for an Azure free account"

I am accessing the redemption flow from:

https://portal.startups.microsoft.com/redeem-benefit/azure-10000

I don't understand why I cannot complete the Azure sign-up. Is this related to Azure Free Account eligibility, or is there another process to activate the startup benefit?

Thank you.

This error can appear during Microsoft for Startups benefit activation when the Azure sign-up validation fails. For Microsoft for Startups, the most relevant checks are:

  1. Use a new eligible personal Microsoft account (MSA).
    • Supported account types include Outlook.com, Hotmail.com, Live.com, Gmail registered as a Microsoft account, or a personal email domain registered as a Microsoft account.
    • Work or school accounts aren’t supported for Microsoft for Startups sign-up or credit activation.
    • If the account was previously used with Azure Free Trial, Azure for Students, previous Microsoft for Startups offers, or other Azure sponsorship/promotional offers, it is ineligible for this startup offer.
  2. Verify the Azure sign-up profile details. Check that the following are correct and consistent:
    • contact email address
    • street address
    • telephone number
    • credit card information Also make sure there isn’t already another Microsoft account using the same information.
  3. Check whether the benefit is being redeemed on an existing enterprise account. Many startup benefits, including Azure-related benefits, can’t be redeemed on an account that has already redeemed the same startup offer.
  4. If the account is eligible but the redemption still fails, use Program Support. Program Support handles:
    • Azure credit activation
    • benefit redemption
    • billing profile issues
    • entitlement corrections
    • portal access problems
  5. Submit the support request from the Azure Portal. Go to the Microsoft for Startups experience in the Azure Portal and click Get Program Support under the Your Microsoft Team tile.

If the specific Azure sign-up error is “You aren't eligible for an Azure subscription”, the documented checks are the same: confirm the Azure account profile details are correct, confirm the credit card details are correct, and confirm there is no existing Microsoft account using the same information.
