Getting same problem on multiple machines and Widnows OS (Win 11, Vista).
chkdsk returns Insufficient storage available to create either the shadow copy storage file or other shadow copy data
but no other errors.
Looks OK in Disk Mgr, says ntfs file system, but free space = capacity ?
With a drive repair tool (Partition Recovery) I can see the file structure of the drive, ie all folders and files
This is a archive drive, I'd just like to restore all the data on it to another normal working drive. Help!
If you have connected that drive to multiple PC's and you see the same error, most likely, that drive has failed.
Drive repair tools may be able to see the index (Master File Table) on the drive showing the list of files and folders on the drive, but that does not indicate the data can be accessed.
Download the widely available free CrystalDiskInfo utility, please provide a screenshot of what that indicates for the drive.

Can you suggest a recovery tool I can try to recover the data?
Hi Jacques, sorry, I was offline, that drive has failed, or is about to fail.
On this forum, we are only allowed to recommend free software, try the free version of Disk Drill or EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard to test if they can recover the data from the drive. Data recovery is very hit and miss, beware of software that indicates it can find your data but only recover it if you pay for their software, usually the data cannot be recovered.
Hi Dave. I was not familiar with Disk Drill. I tried it, but it wanted $100 (USD) yearly to recover more than a few files. I then remembered I had bought way back when something called Active Partition Recovery. I tried it, and it carped about Access being Denied a bit too when I asked it to recover my files but I asked it to continue, and it started munching trough the drive, supposedly copying files and folders to another blank HD I hooked up. It's been running a few hours (Now at 55%), so keeping my fingers crossed... !
