Why does MicroSoft do this and why aren't I informed

I understand that frequent changes to Outlook’s layout can be disruptive, especially when familiar buttons or options move.

Please note that this is a user-to-user forum, so contributors do not control Outlook updates or their notifications.

Outlook is updated regularly to introduce features and deliver performance and security improvements. Changes for the new Outlook for Windows are documented in the release notes and What’s new in new Outlook for Windows.

To clarify which change affected you, could you confirm:

Are you using new Outlook, classic Outlook, Outlook.com in a browser, Outlook for Mac, or the mobile app?
Is this a personal account or a work/school account?
Which button, tab, or screen changed? A screenshot with personal information removed would be helpful.

Once you provide these details, the forum can check whether the previous layout can be restored or customized.

Thank you for your comments. They are useful and made complete sense.

I'm not averse to improvement, just wish it was documented somewhere for clarity, confirmation and security. In that I mean that it confirms that Microsoft have made the changes and not a third party.

There is a new function where on the Delete items mailbox, the recovery link has been replaced with a button. It would be comforting to know this is an enhancement by MS, the reason why and not a hack by someone else.

I've accepted the change and hope that it is MS.

Hi OL Test,

Thank you for clarifying your concern. Wanting to verify an unexpected interface change is entirely reasonable, particularly when it relates to mailbox recovery and security.

The button in Deleted Items is a legitimate Outlook feature. The current instructions for new Outlook for Windows also show Recover items deleted from this folder as a button. You can compare it with the screenshot and steps in Recover and restore deleted items in Outlook.

I agree that documenting visible changes more consistently would make them easier to recognize and verify.

Hi Victor1-V,

Looking on the link you provided, I use the Web Outlook on a Mac.

This is what I see, which doesn't quite match the page provided by MS.

The Yes button. already done.

Thank you for the screenshot and for confirming that you already selected Yes.

The page shown is the current recovery interface in Outlook on the web. I see the same interface on my account. The Recover items deleted from this folder option opens the recoverable-items area for messages that have already been removed from Deleted Items. The Recover button remains unavailable until one or more recoverable items are selected. If no items are listed, there is currently nothing available to select or recover from this location.

The support article may show a slightly different layout, but the function is the same. Since you have also already selected Yes in the Outlook.com support flow, you have completed the available steps.
