Audio file will not play/missing animation pane features

Just to preface - I have updated all apps and systems. I am trying to insert an mp3 (already checked compatability) into a single slide on PowerPoint to start automatically when click to that slide. I have gone through all of the playback and animation settings and it will not play. Through this process several options under the animations pane are greyed out and inaccessible to me. I am on a MAC system. I have an active subscription to 365.
