Hello Microsoft,

I purchased Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2021 1pc from an authorized Microsoft Partner in Vietnam.

After installation, running OSPP.VBS /dstatus shows:

LICENSE NAME: Office 21, Office21ProPlus2021MSDNR_Retail edition 

LICENSE DESCRIPTION: Office 21, RETAIL channel

I cannot find any official Microsoft documentation explaining the meaning of Office21ProPlusMSDNR_Retail.

My question is not about activation. The product is activated successfully.

My question is about licensing compliance:

Is Office21ProPlusMSDNR_Retail licensed for commercial/business use by a small business?
Does Office21ProPlusMSDNR_Retail indicate a Visual Studio Subscription (formerly MSDN) license, or is it simply an internal Office edition name?
Is there any official Microsoft document that explains the meaning of Office21ProPlusMSDNR_Retail?

I have one additional question.

After redeeming my Office product key, I expected to see the product listed under my Microsoft account. However, when I go to the Subscriptions page, I do not see my Office Professional Plus 2021 license.

I noticed that the account page used to have a section called Services & subscriptions, but it now appears as Subscriptions.

Is this expected behavior? Do one-time perpetual licenses such as Office Professional Plus 2021 normally appear in this page, or are only subscription-based products (such as Microsoft 365) shown there?

I just want to confirm whether the absence of my Office 2021 license from the Subscriptions page is normal, or whether it could indicate an issue with the product registration.

Regarding your concern, based on the information provided, the absence of Office Professional Plus 2021 from this page is generally expected and does not by itself indicate any problem with your license or activation. Your case is very interesting. Below are my comments.

The typical Microsoft Office retail SKUs are (for the 2024 variant)
-Office Home 2024
-Office Home and Business 2024

For 2021, since its a number of years back, I rely on the internet for information - the common retail variants are

-Office Home and Student 2021
-Office Home and Business 2021
-Office Professional 2021

The Pro-Plus variant, is the most expensive and comprehensive variant sold by volume license to enterprises. It is most unusual that you can be sold a single license.

I found however, there is a case where someone can obtain a single license. A MSDN subscription - now called Visual Studio offers a Office LTSC Professional Plus 2021 license. The perpetual license key can still be used under certain conditions. MSDN (now called Visual Studio Subscriptions) is a paid, premium service that provides developers and IT professionals with comprehensive access to Microsoft software, product keys, cloud credits, and tools strictly for building and testing applications.

I understand your reasoning that Visual Studio (formerly MSDN) subscriptions can include Office LTSC Professional Plus 2021, and that this could be one possible explanation.

However, since posting my question, I also received a response from a Microsoft External Staff Moderator, who confirmed that Microsoft does not publish any official documentation explaining the internal SKU name Office21ProPlus2021MSDNR_Retail. Therefore, based on the SKU name alone, there is currently no official basis to conclude that it is an MSDN/Visual Studio Subscription license.

In addition, my reseller has confirmed in writing that the product supplied is a legitimate commercial license. The product I purchased is Office Professional Plus 2021 English APAC EM Medialess, intended for the Asia-Pacific market. It was purchased as a full boxed product (the packaging was manufactured in Singapore), rather than as a standalone product key.

I was simply trying to independently verify the licensing information because I wanted to be certain that I am using the product correctly.

In such a case, its probably the genuine product, but could be the same SKU as the MSDN version, hence the MSDN internal SKU name, which Microsoft does not provide details on.
