An AI tool in Foundry for analyzing documents and media to classify content, extract entities, and generate structured understanding
The key distinction is the API version, not a separate “formula availability” switch.
Japan East is listed as a supported region for the GA Content Understanding API, version 2025-11-01. Formula extraction is documented as a GA document element returned in the formulas collection, with inline and display kinds. Microsoft does not publish a separate region matrix for that element, so it should follow the GA service availability for Japan East.
The smaller region list applies to the old 2025-05-01-preview API, which supported only West US, Sweden Central, and Australia East. That preview was scheduled for retirement on July 15, 2026, so it should not be used to decide GA availability.
The pricing calculator is not a feature-availability source. Current GA billing is based on the content-extraction level actually used, plus contextualization and any Foundry model input/output tokens. A $3.30-per-1,000-pages “Formula” line does not match the currently published GA pricing model; treat it as calculator or legacy meter metadata rather than proof that formulas are unavailable.
For a production estimate, select Japan East, use API version 2025-11-01, run representative documents, and use the response’s usage fields. If that line item still appears, send Azure billing support a screenshot with the selected region, currency, and offer so they can confirm the applicable meter.
