Hello Faulkner, Tari (She/Her/Hers)
I understand that several OneNote tabs have turned black and no longer open. This might be caused by a temporary display or synchronization problem, but the affected sections may also be damaged.
Here are some suggestions you can try first:
- Sign in to https://onenote.cloud.microsoft/ with the same account and open the affected notebook. If the tabs open there, create a new section and use Move or Copy to copy the pages into it.
- In the desktop app, go to File > Info > View Sync Status, then select Sync Now beside the notebook. Also install any available Office updates under File > Account > Update Options > Update Now. See Fix issues when you can’t sync OneNote.
- If the sections will not open online either, check History > Notebook Recycle Bin. If you're using OneNote on Windows, also try File > Info > Open Backups and copy the affected section or pages back into the notebook. See Recover deleted notes.
If the issue continues, please let me know:
- Which device and OneNote version are you using?
- Is the notebook saved in OneDrive, SharePoint, or only on the device?
