cannot restore recycle bin

I understand how inconvenient it can be when you cannot restore an important file from the Recycle Bin.

To help narrow this down, could you please let us know:

• Which version of Windows are you using?
• Is the Restore option missing or grayed out, or does nothing happen when you select it?
• Does this affect every item in the Recycle Bin or only one particular file or folder?
• Was the item originally stored on the computer, an external drive, or in a OneDrive-synced folder?
• Do you receive any error message? If so, please share the exact message or a screenshot with any personal information hidden.

In the meantime, please try restoring one item at a time: open Recycle Bin, select the file or folder, right-click it, and choose Restore. The item should return to its original location, so please also check that folder afterward.

If the file was deleted from OneDrive, please also check the Recycle Bin on the OneDrive website, as cloud-deleted files may not appear in the Windows Recycle Bin.
