Visio master shapes cannot be edited

I made a stencil with some shapes and realized that I needed to change them slightly so I right-clicked on the master that needed editing and went to Edit Master>Edit Master Shape and the editor came up completely blank. All the shapes in my stencil are like this. They come out normal when I drag them out but they're all blank when I try to edit them. Double clicking on the master does the exact same thing. What is the correct way to edit my masters? Like how do I bring up an edit window that actually lets me edit them? Thanks.

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

In Visio, the master shape is probably fine. The blank window usually means you opened the Master editing canvas, not the actual shape instance on the drawing page.

    Try this:

    1. Right click the stencil and select Edit Stencil.
    2. Right click the master shape: Edit Master > Edit Master Shape
    3. Make your changes and save.

If the edit window is still blank, the shape may be controlled through ShapeSheet or properties instead of visible drawing elements.

If it is a built-in Microsoft stencil shape, copy it to My Shapes or your own stencil first, then edit your copy
