Need Bitlocker Recovery Key for a locked Secondary drive

I am using a Dell Precision 7680 with Win 11. We have an issue with the internal Secondary drive. We had a user having issues with the computer. Initially we were going to send it to our Technology Operations department to have it reimaged. We could not do that initially, because the user had some important files on his C: drive needing to be retrieved. We removed the secondary (Drive d:) from the computer, so the reimaging would not affect it. We then sent it to our Technology Operations department and had the computer reimaged. We received the computer back and then went put back in the secondary drive. The device booted fine, but here is the issue: We can't access the Secondary drive, because it says it needs a Bitlocker recovery key to access it. I know how to retrieve a BitLocker key for the main drive, but not the secondary. Any help would be appreciated.

The recovery key should be stored in the same place as any other BitLocker recovery key. So where the system drive recovery is then it should also show the D: recovery key.

If the user has been using their personal account to sign-in then it will be there. If a domain account is used then it should be there. What type of account was in use previously?

Probably the best idea would have been to make sure the recovery key was saved and available for D: prior to the reimage.

Without the correct key the data is lost.

In this case, reimaging Windows likely removed the information previously used to unlock D: automatically. The secondary D: drive has its own BitLocker recovery key, separate from the key for C:.

Open D: and choose Enter recovery key.
Note the first eight characters of the Recovery Key ID shown.
Ask your Technology Operations team to find the BitLocker key matching that ID in the organization’s account or device-management system.
Enter the matching 48-digit recovery key to unlock D:.

Microsoft Support cannot recreate a missing BitLocker key. If Technology Operations cannot find the matching key and no other unlock method was saved, then unfortunately, the encrypted files cannot be recovered.

If you cannot find the recovery key on any Microsoft account you have then the data is lost. There is no other recovery method.

I assume because it is a secondary drive you are using Pro edition and not Home.

Has the drive always been in the current system or did it come from a different system.

Have you ever used a business account or signed into a company domain?

Were you able to open D: and see the Recovery Key ID?

Did Technology Operations search for a 48-digit recovery key matching that exact ID?

Did they find a matching key, and if so, what error appeared when you entered it?
