This may not be caused by the template. Microsoft recently reported an Office for Mac issue where files can open but cannot be edited or saved.
In PowerPoint, go to Help > Check for Updates, then install all available updates. Restart your Mac afterward and test again.
Also, please try creating a blank presentation and saving it to your Desktop as a .pptx file.
Does the same problem happen with the blank presentation? Is the Save option greyed out, or do you receive an error message? Also, does PowerPoint show an “Activate Office” or subscription warning?
