Good afternoon,

I'm having an issue with this issue, it happened yestraday with an end user. I'm not sure if it's a corrupted account or if it's been configured incorrectly, but the issue occurred out of nowhere.

Troubleshooting steps taken:

Step 1: Close Windows App

Right-click the Start button.

Click Task Manager.

Find Windows App in the list.

Click it.

Click End task.

Open Windows App again.

Try connecting.

Step 2: Restart the computer

Click Start.

Click the Power button.

Click Restart.

After the computer restarts, open Windows App.

Try connecting again.

Step 3: Repair Windows App

Right-click the Start button.

Click Installed apps.

Find Windows App.

Click the three dots beside it.

Click Advanced options.

Scroll down.

Click Repair.

Wait for it to finish.

Open Windows App and test it.

Step 4: Reset Windows App

Only do this if Repair did not work.

Go back to: Start → Installed apps → Windows App → three dots → Advanced options

Scroll down.

Click Reset.

Click Reset again to confirm.

Open Windows App.

Sign back in with:

Try connecting again.

Step 5: Update Windows App

Open the Microsoft Store.

Click Library on the left.

Click Get updates.

Let Windows App update.

Restart the computer.

Try connecting again.

Step 6: Reinstall Windows App

Only do this if none of the steps above worked.

  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Click Installed apps.
  3. Find Windows App.
  4. Click the three dots.
  5. Click Uninstall.
  6. Restart the computer.
  7. Open the Microsoft Store.
  8. Search for Windows App.
  9. Click Install.
  10. Open it and sign in again.

I even tried looking into Exchange Online, but I wasn't successful. Is there anything else I can do to resolve this challenge for the user?

Hi Patrick Thomas

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

From the screenshot, it appears the issue is occurring in New Outlook for Windows, while the troubleshooting steps you listed are for Windows App. Could you please confirm whether the affected application is New Outlook for Windows?

If so, the issue is more likely related to the mailbox or licensing rather than the Windows App itself.

Based on the error message, I would recommend checking the following:

  • Verify that the affected user has a valid Microsoft 365 license that includes Outlook desktop apps.
  • Verify that the user's Exchange Online mailbox is provisioned correctly and can be accessed successfully through Outlook on the web (OWA).
  • Verify whether there have been any recent changes to the user's Microsoft 365 license or mailbox configuration, since you mentioned the issue occurred unexpectedly.

Please note that we're not Microsoft Support; this is a user-to-user community forum. Moderators here don't have access to your environment or Microsoft's backend systems, so we can only provide guidance based on public documentation and community experience.

I look forward to your update.
