"Verify with LinkedIn" fires only a telemetry request (no OAuth) - $1,000 startup credits blocked (AADSTS16000, directory-less personal account)

Hello Microsoft for Startups team,

I applied to Microsoft for Startups and cannot unlock the $1,000 Azure starter credits. The "Verify with LinkedIn" button in the Microsoft for Startups blade (AzureForStartups.ReactView) does nothing - no popup, no redirect, no LinkedIn OAuth screen, no visible error.

Network capture (proof the flow never starts)

When I click "Verify with LinkedIn", the ONLY request fired is POST https://portal.azure.com/api/Telemetry returning 204. There is NO call to /api/user, no /api/auth/linkedin/callback, no window.open, and no error surfaced. The click handler records telemetry and stops there.

Identity error (AADSTS16000)

Whenever the portal tries to acquire tokens (Support blade, Microsoft Entra "Manage tenants", etc.) it shows:

interaction_required: AADSTS16000: User account from identity provider 'live.com' does not exist in tenant 'Microsoft Services' and cannot access the application '74658136-14ec-4630-ad9b-26e160ff0fc6' (ADIbizaUX) in that tenant. The account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant first.

  • Tenant ID: f8cdef31-a31e-4b4a-93e4-5f571e91255a (primary domain = the tenant GUID, "Microsoft Entra ID Free", no verified domain)
  • Trace ID: c7752e98-40f4-4893-a4fb-bad2b8204500 / Correlation ID: 098a9800-d1a9-4106-a807-0e49c7e6ba57 (2026-07-14 19:55 UTC)
  • Earlier occurrence: Trace 11e25095-b21a-47fc-a367-898d1f314100 / Correlation 7ac3fa36-e998-4c1e-8793-a3245661240b

Root cause (my account has no Microsoft Entra directory yet)

My sign-in account is a personal Microsoft account (live.com) using an own-domain email. It sits in the shared "Microsoft Services" tenant with no directory associated, so every management-plane token acquisition fails.

What I already tried

  • Fresh InPrivate session, single account, LinkedIn pre-logged-in, no VPN / no ad-blockers, full sign-out and sign-in.
  • Tried to create my own Microsoft Entra tenant (Manage tenants -> Create) to provision the missing directory - blocked by the same AADSTS16000, so I cannot self-provision a directory from the portal.

Request

Please provision the missing directory / fix the identity linkage on my account so LinkedIn verification can complete, OR manually verify my startup and unlock the $1,000 starter credits.

    hi Jose carlos Fernández Campos & thx for sharing urs issue here at Q&A portal,

    broken Microsoft for Startups onboarding flow combined with an account/tenant mismatch. The key part is AADSTS16000. Your personal Microsoft account is being sent to an app in the Microsoft Services tenant, but that account doesn’t exist there as an Entra user. That explains why the portal can’t acquire the management token and why the LinkedIn button only records telemetry without starting OAuth. This isn’t something u can fix with browser cleanup. The startup portal team needs to repair the identity linkage or move the application to an account that has a valid Entra tenant. Q&A moderators can’t provision the directory or manually unlock the credits themselves.

    I’d open a Microsoft for Startups support case and include the trace IDs, correlation IDs, timestamp, startup application/account email, and the Network capture showing that no LinkedIn OAuth request is created. Ask them to route it to the Founders Hub identity/onboarding team, not generic Azure support.

    Don’t post any more tenant or account identifiers publicly. The real issue is the backend identity state; LinkedIn is only where the broken flow becomes visible.
