I have a groupme account; however, when I try to log in, it asks for verification. The problem is that i no longer have that phone number. What can I do?

Unfortunately, in that case, the only available solution will be to use the “Use a backup code instead” option at the bottom of the sign-in screen.

There is no other way to verify the account or change the current verification method without first completing the existing verification process. Sadly, to use this option, you must have generated the backup code previously. Alternatively, if you have another device where the account is currently signed in, you may be able to request a new code from there.

Once you regain access to the account, you can update your security information and add a new verification method.

If the account is still accessible on another signed-in device or on the web, update the phone number there first:

Android: Profile picture → Edit profile → Edit → pencil next to phone number → enter the new number → SEND PIN.
iOS: Profile picture → Edit profile → Edit → phone number field → enter the new number → Get PIN.
Windows: Avatar → pencil button → Change your Phone Number → Change Number → enter the new number → Send PIN.
Web: Sign in in a browser → avatar → Edit next to the current phone number → enter the new number → Submit.

If the sign-in flow is blocked because verification is still going to the old number, the supported path is to contact GroupMe support.

If a PIN is not arriving during the update:

Keep the GroupMe app on the PIN screen.
Wait up to five minutes.
Do not restart the registration flow repeatedly, because that generates a new PIN.
Contact support and include the phone number.

Also note:

Each GroupMe account requires a unique phone number.
Landlines, most VoIP numbers, toll-free numbers, premium-rate numbers, and UAN numbers are not supported for registration.
If two-step verification is enabled, GroupMe requires the phone number to be re-verified when turning it off or on again.
