Hello Microsoft Team,

We are experiencing an issue while configuring a newly installed WSUS server integrated with Microsoft Configuration Manager (Current Branch 2509).

Environment

  • Windows Server 2022 Standard (21H2)
  • OS Build: 20348.5256
  • Microsoft Configuration Manager Current Branch 2509
  • WSUS configured with SQL Server (SUSDB)
  • Software Update Point (SUP)
  • Corporate proxy is used for outbound internet access

Issue Description

During the initial synchronization with Microsoft Update, the synchronization process continuously logs the following errors in SoftwareDistribution.log:

SqlException occurred. Number 50000 and message invalid update identity in XML for update {GUID}

SqlException occurred. Number 50000 and message invalid update identity (AtLeastOne Prerequisite) in XML for update {GUID}

Thousands of these errors are generated during every synchronization.

Troubleshooting Performed

The following troubleshooting steps have already been completed:

  • Completely removed the WSUS role.
  • Deleted the existing SUSDB database.
  • Created a new SUSDB on SQL Server.
  • Created a new WSUS content directory.
  • Reinstalled the WSUS role.
  • Successfully completed WSUS post-installation.
  • Removed and reinstalled the Software Update Point (SUP).
  • Reconfigured the SUP.
  • Configured proxy settings in the SUP.
  • Verified IIS configuration.
  • Verified SQL Server connectivity.
  • Confirmed that SUSDB is online and healthy.
  • Performed multiple manual software update synchronizations from Configuration Manager.
  • Reviewed all related WSUS and SCCM log files.

SUPSetup.log

SUP installation completed successfully.

Installation was successful.

WCM.log

WSUS configuration completed successfully.

Attempting connection to local WSUS server Successfully connected to local WSUS server Successfully inserted WSUS Enterprise Update Source object Configuration successful. Setting new configuration state to 2 (WSUS_CONFIG_SUCCESS)

WSyncMgr.log

Synchronization completes successfully from the Configuration Manager perspective.

Sync succeeded.

Sync time: 0d00h15m32s

No changes made to the SMS database, content version remains 0.

SoftwareDistribution.log

The following errors continue to appear throughout every synchronization:

SqlException occurred. Number 50000 and message invalid update identity in XML for update {GUID}

SqlException occurred. Number 50000 and message invalid update identity (AtLeastOne Prerequisite) in XML for update {GUID}

Questions

Could Microsoft please confirm the following?

  1. Is this a known Microsoft Update catalog metadata issue?
  2. Is there an official workaround or PowerShell script available?
  3. Is Microsoft currently working on a server-side fix?
  4. Is there any additional troubleshooting that you recommend before opening a support case?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

    Where geographically are you located? There have been a few people who've had this problem and I'm thinking it's geographical as I'm able to start a new server and sync with MS fine.
