Update all vokovlabs plugins in Azure Managed Grafana workspaces

Currently, all of our installed volkovlabs plugins in our Azure Managed Grafana workspaces are using older versions, some of which date back over a year ago. Since we don't have the ability to manage the plugins ourselves we'd like all of our plugins to be upgraded to their latest versions.

These are the current versions of our volkovlabs plugins and their corresponding latest version we'd like an upgrade to:

We understand that the Volkov Labs plugins installed in your Azure Managed Grafana workspaces are currently running older versions and that you would like them upgraded to the latest releases.

Azure Managed Grafana is a fully managed service, and plugin versions are maintained by the platform. Customers do not have the ability to manually upgrade third party plugins within Azure Managed Grafana workspaces. Plugin updates are validated and rolled out by the Azure Managed Grafana service team as part of the managed service lifecycle.

Installing and removing plugins isn't available from the Grafana UI or the Azure CLI at this stage. Plugin management is done from the Azure Managed Grafana workspace in the Azure portal.

To help diagnose this, I need a few more details:

How are the VolkovLabs plugins currently managed in your Azure Managed Grafana environment (e.g., via Azure Portal, CLI, or another method)?

Because we're using Azure Managed Grafana instances we don't have the ability to upgrade the plugins ourselves. We select the plugins we'd like installed via the Azure Portal > Azure Grafana Resource > Settings > Plugin Management. All the plugins look like below, without an option to upgrade:

Important difference from self-hosted Grafana: Azure Managed Grafana doesn't offer a per-plugin "update to version X" control, and plugin install/remove is done only from the Azure portal → Plugin management — not from the Grafana UI or grafana-cli/Azure CLI. Plugin versions are governed by the managed service and advance with the workspace's Grafana major version.

The Volkov Labs plugins (Business Charts, Business Text, Business Forms, Business Variable, etc.) are community third-party plugins, which Microsoft notes have their own release cadence "outside of Microsoft control."

You have three options to update them:

Remove and re-add each plugin (quickest refresh to the current catalog version): Portal > your workspace > Plugin management > untick the plugin > Save > Yes, then re-tick > Save > Yes. Please do this in a maintenance window, as removing a plugin used in dashboards will break those panels until it's re-added.

Upgrade the workspace's Grafana major version (moves the whole plugin baseline forward): Portal > Settings > Configuration > Grafana Version, or az grafana update --name <workspace> --resource-group <rg> --major-version 12. Note that upgrading to Grafana 12 is irreversible and includes breaking changes — please review What's new in v12 first.

If you need a specific newer version the catalog doesn't yet offer, that's a managed-service catalog dependency. please do let us know and we'll assist you further on this.

Hi, Azure Managed Grafana controls the plugin catalog and plugin versions; workspace administrators cannot upload or upgrade arbitrary Grafana plugins the way they can on a self-hosted instance. That means there is no supported CLI/API loop to force all Volkov Labs plugins to the latest release. Check the Managed Grafana plugin-management blade and current supported-plugin list for the versions Microsoft has approved. If a required fix is missing, open a support request with the workspace region, Grafana version, plugin name/version, and the business impact, and ask for its managed-catalog status. If you must control plugin versions immediately, self-hosted Grafana is the practical alternative, with the security/maintenance work that entails.
