How to save a Publisher file made on a MS Office 2010 Publisher program so it will run on a Publisher program designed for Windows 95

Unfortunately, a Publisher 2010 file cannot be saved in a format that Publisher 95 can reliably open. Publisher 2010 may offer older formats such as Publisher 2000 or Publisher 98 under File > Save As, but Publisher 95 is too old and will not understand the later file structure. Renaming the .pub file will not convert it.

The best option is to get Publisher 2010 working again. If Office 2010 was a one-time purchase, reinstall it using the original installation media and product key, then open the existing files normally. Publisher 95 may also have installation or printing problems on a modern version of Windows, even if the copy is legitimate.

If Publisher 2010 can still be opened on another computer, it is recommended that you:

Keep the original .pub files.

Save PDF copies for reliable viewing and printing.

Try Save As and choose the oldest Publisher format offered, but test a copy first because formatting may change.

A PDF will preserve the appearance, but it cannot be edited in Publisher 95.
