My company purchased some Lenovo thinkpads. One came in already under another companies name. Lenovo advised that I have to reach out to Microsoft cloud support. I'm not able to speak to ANY live person through Microsoft. How do I get support in updating the ID account for this device?

Hello Fred,

If the ThinkPad is showing another company's organization during Windows setup, then it is likely still registered in that organization's Windows Autopilot or Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) tenant.

And unfortunately, Microsoft cannot simply transfer ownership of an Autopilot device at the request of the new owner. The device must first be removed from the previous organization's Autopilot tenant by the organization that currently has it registered.

To better understand the situation, could you confirm the following?

  • Are you seeing an Autopilot enrollment screen displaying another company's name during the Windows setup (OOBE), or is Windows already installed and the device is simply associated with another Microsoft account?
  • Was the device purchased directly from Lenovo, or through a reseller/vendor?

I've reimaged the laptop with my companies' windows 11 image. During that set up is where Microsoft advises that this device is under another company. It was purchased through a vendor who purchased it from Lenovo.
