Surface 7 Laptop will not charge or switch on

When i plug in the charger the LED lights for approx 12 seconds then disppears for 2 seconds and repeats like that. I have tried different cables and different plug sockets, still the same. I even used a friends laptop charger with a C cable to no avail.

When i hit the power button the windows logo comes up after about 3 seconds, it lights for 2, disappears for 3 and then lights again and then disappears.d the hod thepower button down for 20 seconds etc.

This is no longer happening as i presume the battery has completely drained.

Which Surface Laptop generation is it?

Try the followings:

Plug it in with the original charger, direct to a wall outlet, and leave it untouched for 30–45 minutes — don't press the power button. Deeply drained Surface batteries can take that long before any LED shows.

If the LED comes on solid after that, let it charge 1–2 hours before trying to power on.

If there's still zero LED response after 45 min, that strongly suggests the battery or charging circuit has failed — not something fixable at home.

If it does power on, try a hard reset: hold Power alone for 30 seconds until the screen goes fully black, release, wait 10 sec, then press Power once to boot.

Bottom line: If step 3 happens (no LED at all after a long wait), this is very likely a battery or motherboard charging-circuit failure needing service, not a software fix.

The charger LED cycling on for about 12 seconds and off for about 2 seconds points to a charging or power-supply connection problem rather than a normal charging state.

Try these steps in order:

Reset the power supply
- Disconnect the charger from the Surface.
- Unplug the power cable from the wall.
- Disconnect any USB accessories.
- Wait at least 10 seconds.
- Clean the connector with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth and check for damage.
- Plug the charger back into the wall and then into the Surface.
Reverse the Surface Connect plug
- Remove the charging connector.
- Flip it 180 degrees.
- Reconnect it securely.
- Check whether the LED becomes stable and whether charging starts.
Charge with the correct Surface power supply
- Use the power supply designed for the Surface Laptop.
- If charging over USB-C, use a USB-C PD charger that provides at least the same wattage as the original Surface power supply.
Disconnect accessories
- Remove USB devices, SD cards, external monitors, docks, Type Cover, and other attached accessories.
- Accessories can prevent startup or draw too much power.
Leave it connected for at least 15 minutes
- With the correct charger connected, let it charge for at least 15 minutes before trying to power it on.
Try startup recovery steps
- Press Windows logo key + Ctrl + Shift + B with a keyboard attached or using the integrated keyboard.
- Then try a forced restart by holding the power button until the logo screen appears, about 20 seconds.
If it still will not charge or start
- If another known-good Surface charger or USB-C PD charger also does not work, the next step is a service order for the Surface or the power supply.
- If the charging port, connector, or cable shows physical damage, service is recommended.

Important warning: if attempting the battery-driver uninstall method later, do not do that on Windows Arm-based devices such as Surface Laptop (7th Edition). On those devices, uninstalling battery drivers can require a full system reset to restore them.
