creating a book from a word document

I am trying to create a personal 8 x 11 bound book using Microsoft Word.

The book is long about 400 pages with footnotes. When I add page numbers to the book about half way in it starts to number the pages from 1. It shows the correct number of pages in the computer word document, but I cannot choose a specific page to print. It prints the entire document.

How can I fix the corrupt file?

Your description indicates that there is a section break; this is necessary to restart the page numbering. Whenever a document includes section breaks, it is necessary to include the section number along with the page number when printing. If you add Formatted Page Number and Section Number to the status bar, it will be easy to see the syntax, which is pxsx.
