How to fix error 0x800f081f for 2026-06 Security Update (KB5094126) (26200.8655) for Windows 11 ver 25H2 for ARM64 processor

Hi

I have an ASUS personal laptop with a Snapdragon(R) X - X126100 - Qualcomm(R) Oryon(TM) CPU (2.96 GHz) processor (64-bit operating system, ARM-based processor), 32Gb RAM, 1Tb HDD with > 700Gb free space. This laptop came pre-installed with Windows 11 Home and was purchased from an authorised dealer less than 1 year old.

I recently noticed multiple failed Windows update attempts (error 0x800f081f) to update 2026-06 Security Update (KB5094126) (26200.8655) and 2026-06 Preview Update (KB5095093) (260200.8737). The last successful update was 2026-05 for NET Framework Preview Update (KB5092427) on 31/05/2026. I have always left the computer to update windows when required on its own, and never had any issue in the past.

I searched the web and tried unsuccessfully all suggested remedies I can find:

System File Checker:

  • "Did not find any integrity violation"

DISM tools:

  • "Image Version: 10.0.26200.7462". "The repair content could not be found anywhere. Check the internet connectivity or use the "Source" option to specify the location of the files that are required to restore the image. For more information on specifying a source location, see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=243077"

Reset Windows Update components:

  • cryptSvc: "The requested pause, continue, or stop is not valid for this service"
  • Access denied when trying to rename "SoftwareDistribution" and "catroot2"

Install ,NET Framework 3.5 using Windows GUI:

  • The installation of .NET Framework 3.5 went ok, but did not solve the problem (same 0x800f081f error when I tried to install KB5094126)

Manually download and install update msu file:

  • The update was unsuccessful, after more than 1 hour's wait

In-place upgrade using the iso file downloaded from Microsoft:

  • "We've set your PC back to the way it was right before started installing Windows 11. 0xC1900101 - 0x20017. The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation. ".

I have spent one whole day trying the above potential solutions, but nothing seems to work. This is way beyond my computer knowledge. Very frustrating !

Is this a known issue and is Microsoft working to correct it ? Will this continue to affect all my Windows Update in the future, ie I can't update windows anymore on this laptop ?

Hopefully, someone can shed some light on how to resolve this.

Please try the repair installation via Settings (instead of the ISO). See Fix issues by reinstalling the current version of Windows | Microsoft Support

If that doesn't help, share your Farbar scan logs for analysis.

  • Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool 64-bit FRST64.exe
  • If the OS language is not English, rename FRST64.exe to FRST64English.exe.
  • Run the program. Don't check or uncheck any options. Click "Scan".
  • Add the two logs, FRST.txt and Addition.txt, to a zip archive.
  • Share the zip file on OneDrive or GoFile.io, and post the link here.

Note: If Microsoft Edge or Chrome mislabels the Farbar Scanner executable as PUA/malware, choose to keep it by tapping … in the bottom bar, choosing Keep, and then choosing Keep anyway in the dialog that appears. See this screenshot. It's a safe tool used in most antimalware forums.

    I was half way doing what you suggest when you email came, and my Windows Update is now finally showing "Up-to-date" after > 12 hours of trying.

    However, I noticed that one of the updates causing the initial problem (2026-06 Preview Update (KB5095093) (260200.8737)) is still to be installed. Since this is an optional update, I am just going to leave it - too afraid to mess things up again.

    Also, 2026-06 Security Update (KB5094126) (26200.8655) is nowhere to be found in Windows Update anymore. Has this been incorporated into Windows 11, version 25H2 (repair version), or will I still have to install it again eventually sometime down the line which is a worry.
