Windows update isn't detecting newer Windows versions

Windows 11 Pro 22H2 build 22621.4317, Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga Gen 4

Settings > Windows update says "Get the newer version of Windows to stay up to date", "Your version of Windows has reached the end of service".

There is nothing that I can see to update to a later version of Windows such as 24H2 or 25H2, even after doing "Check for updates". I have tried this while "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available" is enabled.

Hello

Version 22H2 is a discontinued version. When Windows version is discontinued, it also means Microsoft will no longer push updates, hence you won't get updates via Windows Settings

You may or may not get the updates via Windows Installation Assistant tool. However, the tool only works if the gap is not too big. You are missing several versions in between, so it is not a guarantee that the tool can update it. Worth a try though first. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11 Use the first download now button to download it and use the update option.

If that fails, then you have no other options but to clean install. Back up your files first.

The following steps should be done on a working Windows computer:

Download the Windows Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's official website. https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11 click on the "download now" button under "Create Windows 11 Installation Media"

Run the tool and select "Create installation media for another PC."

Choose "USB flash drive" as the media to use for the installation and select "Next."

Connect a USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of free space to your computer.

Select the USB flash drive you want to use, and then select "Next."

The tool will then download the required files and create the installation media.

Now these steps will  be done on your problematic computer:

Go to the computer's BIOS boot menu to have it boot from the USB drive.

Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows 11, making sure to choose "Custom install" and select the option to delete all existing partitions.

Once the installation is complete, you'll have a clean installation of Windows 11 on your computer.
