App Service Domain redemption

Hi,

I have a domain purchased through Azure App Service Domains.

Sadly auto-renew was turned off for this domain and I missed the renew window. The domain expired on 2026-06-11 and now it is in "Held" state.

 

I would like to renew this domain and recover it if it is currently in the redemption period. Apparently there is no way to renew it myself and we should ask support to do it for us, but I don't have a paid support plan to do that. How should I proceed?

The domain expired on June 11, 2026, and was not automatically renewed because the auto-renewal setting was disabled at the time of expiration.

At present, the domain is in a Held status, and the option to renew it through the Azure portal is no longer available.

Based on its current stage in the domain lifecycle, the domain may move to the registrar's auction process. During this period, the original owner, along with other interested parties, may have the opportunity to recover the domain by participating in GoDaddy Auctions.

You can monitor the domain's status and availability through the following portal:

If the domain is not acquired during the auction phase, it will eventually be released by the registry. Once released, there may be an additional waiting period before the domain becomes available for registration again.

We understand the importance of retaining this domain and recommend closely monitoring the auction process for any opportunity to recover ownership.

    Hi! A domain in Held or redemption status cannot usually be renewed through the normal Azure control. Recovery must be processed by the registrar and may include a redemption fee. Open a billing/subscription support request for App Service Domains; a paid technical plan should not be required for a billing or domain-registration problem. Act quickly because the redemption period is limited and recovery is not guaranteed after it ends.
