Azure for Students verification - GetSchoolsByCountry returns empty array for India

Hello,

I am trying to apply for Azure for Students.User's image

During student verification, the school search does not work.

I inspected the browser's Network tab and found that the API request:

GetSchoolsByCountry?countryCode=IN

returns an empty array ([]).

Because of this, no institutions can be selected. Even well-known institutions such as IITs cannot be found, and any manually entered school name is cleared automatically.

I have tested this using:

  • Microsoft Edge
  • InPrivate mode
  • No browser extensions
  • Different network

This appears to be a backend issue with the school lookup API rather than a browser issue.

Could someone from the Azure Education team investigate this issue?

Thank you.

Hi Ankit Kumar,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A,

You've correctly identified that the GetSchoolsByCountry API is returning an empty array for India. As a workaround, try the GitHub Student Developer Pack verification path:

  1. Apply at education.github.com/pack and get verified
  2. Once approved, go to GitHub Benefits > Microsoft Azure and generate a verification code
  3. Use that code to activate Azure for Students at azure.microsoft.com/free/students

This bypasses the school lookup API entirely, and you could create the Azure Student Account.
