When will the GPT-5 model family be available for standard deployment in the UK South region of Azure AI Foundry?

Hi,

I am currently facing an issue with GPT model availability in the UK South region of Azure AI Foundry. At the moment, none of the GPT-5 family models are available for standard deployment in this region.

Due to our organization's data residency and compliance requirements, we must deploy our Azure AI resources in the UK South region and cannot use another region.

Could you please let us know:

Is there an estimated timeline for when the GPT-5 family models will be available for standard deployment in the UK South region?
Is this region currently on the rollout roadmap?
Are there any recommended alternatives that satisfy UK data residency requirements until GPT-5 becomes available?

Any information or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Model availability is released on a region-by-region basis and can change over time, so we recommend monitoring the official Azure OpenAI regional availability documentation for the latest updates.

Regarding UK data residency requirements :

If your organization must keep Azure AI resources deployed within UK South, the recommended approach is to use the most capable model currently available in that region until GPT‑5 deployments become available there.

I’m currently using GPT models to map OCR-extracted invoice data to the required fields. However, the client has a strict requirement that all data must remain within the UK.

Do you know if Azure offers OpenAI/GPT models that are hosted and processed entirely within UK regions? If so, I’d appreciate any guidance on the available models and Azure deployment options.

It would also be great to connect and discuss this briefly, as I’d like to make sure we choose an approach that fully satisfies the client’s UK data-residency requirements. Please let me know a convenient time to connect.

Key considerations:

• Azure OpenAI and Azure AI Foundry support different deployment types, including Regional (geography-based), Data Zone, and Global deployments. The data processing location depends on the deployment type selected.

• For Regional (Standard/Regional) deployments, inference prompts and responses are processed within the Azure geography associated with the deployment. However, model availability varies by region, and not all models are available in every region.

• Microsoft documents that data stored at rest remains in the Azure geography where the resource is deployed. The processing location for inference workloads depends on the deployment type used and the model's availability.
