Powerpoints (from Sharepoint) on iPad downloading constantly

We have multiple iPads that are running Powerpoint at once in one building, but as of this week, they started to take up all the bandwidth in our network. I'm not sure if it has always done that at a smaller rate, but starting this month, all of the iPads that have Powerpoints that runs from Sharepoint are CONSTANTLY downloading updates, even though there aren't any changes being made to any of the Powerpoints at that time. One iPad can use over 50GB within an hour, which doesn't work well when we have multiple iPads going at once and our network is needed for other devices.

The only solution we have currently is to Save a Copy of the Powerpoint onto the iPad and use that one OR play the Powerpoint offline. But we prefer to not download a copy everytime, as new Powerpoints will be used each week. Also, some Powerpoints require internet access as they link to Youtube.

The iPads are updated to the newest iOS and the Powerpoint apps are updated as well.

Is there a reason why this is suddenly happening? And is there a solution to this?

Good day Jasmine, and I appreciate the clear explanation of your concern.

Based on the information you shared, the PowerPoint presentation that remains unchanged shouldn't continuously consume large amounts of bandwidth while it is open. The reported usage of more than 50 GB per hour on a single device requires further investigation.

    • Since this issue is occurring across multiple devices and appears to have started recently, I strongly recommend the organization's IT administrator to submit a support ticket through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center > Support > Help & Support for further investigation.
    • Turn off the "Support Assistant" feature.
    • Use the keyword "Support" to quickly bypass automated suggestions > Select Contact Support.

    • In the ticket description, please clearly describe the issue, including any error messages or codes and the steps you’ve already tried. You can also attach screenshots or screen recordings.
    • Additionally, sharing their preferred contact times may help the support team handle the case more efficiently.

A Microsoft technical support engineer can conduct a remote session to review the issue in detail, validate backend configurations, and run any required synchronization or diagnostic tools. If necessary, the case can be escalated to a specialized team for more in‑depth analysis and resolution.

I would like to clarify that my role is limited to sharing public documentation, testing observations and general troubleshooting guidance. I don't have access to internal diagnostic tools, engineering backlogs, or build level investigations. Because of that, I am not able to confirm whether this behavior is linked to a known product issue or bug.

Also, as many members of the community may not yet be aware of this behavior. Sharing or highlighting this response can help bring greater visibility to the issue, making it easier for others who are experiencing similar challenges to find relevant information and support.

I hope this helps clarify the current situation and the available next steps. If you have any questions or need further support, please don’t hesitate to reach out at any time.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
