I can't access word offline

If I'm on a plane for example, I get the activate prompt and I can't even save a copy of the document on my hard drive to work on it. After this happened on a long flight, I followed advice and cleared my login and License Data. Word stopped prompting me to log a few times a week and I thought I'd fixed the problem. Today, when I lost internet, it happened again. I couldn't 'save as' and work offline. I use 365 on a Mac and have the icons installed. What do I need to do to fix this?

Thanks.

Hello AussieK

From what you described, Word for Mac is asking you to activate Microsoft 365 again when your Mac loses internet connection, and this prevents you from saving a copy locally or continuing to work offline.

To better understand the situation and provide more targeted solutions, please confirm a few details below:

  1. What is the exact activation prompt or error message you see when Word goes offline? A screenshot would also help, but please hide any personal information.
  2. Are the affected documents saved locally on your Mac, or are they stored in OneDrive/SharePoint? (If they are cloud files, as a workaround you can try opening the file while online, turning off AutoSave, then using File > Save As / Save a Copy to save a local copy under On My Mac, such as Desktop or Documents, before working offline).
  3. When you said you cleared your login and License Data, did you mean you ran Microsoft’s Office License Removal Tool for Mac?

As another step, you may also consider uninstalling Office and reinstalling it directly from the Services & subscriptions page of the Microsoft account linked to your active Microsoft 365 subscription, instead of using the Apple App Store version. This helps ensure the Office installation is associated with the correct Microsoft 365 license.

I look forward to your response so we could determine the best next steps!

Best regards.
