MS Word does not enter correct special characters in search and replace

When I try to use the special charater menu in Word to replace Paragraph Marks, it enters ^v instead of ^p (or the actual symbol). Is this a known bug?

On the list of special characters, choose Paragraph Mark at the top of the list instead of ¶ Paragraph Character.
