How do I reopen Edge with all of the then existing tabs before restart when it automatically does not reload?

I restarted my computer to free up RAM space and when I logged into my account and opened Edge it did not automatically reload any of those tabs.

Edge normally restores your previous session automatically, but this only works if the browser was closed cleanly.

To make sure tabs reopen after a restart, check this setting: Settings → Start, home, and new tabs → When Edge starts → “Open tabs from the previous session.”

If Edge didn’t restore your tabs this time, you can still recover them:

    Go to History (Ctrl+H)

    Open Recently closed

Look for a previous window and select Restore

Or press Ctrl+Shift+T to reopen closed tabs/windows

Edge may fail to restore tabs after forced restarts, crashes, or Windows updates, so using the History → Recently closed section is the most reliable recovery method.

I have personally started the process of closing Edge window myself instead of allowing update process to close, as the update process doesn't always close the browser cleanly.

    Hi Robert Duncan,

If Microsoft Edge is not reopening your tabs after a restart, it's worth checking whether session restore is enabled.

Additionally, you can try these checks:

    1. Verify that Edge is fully up to date via Settings > About Microsoft Edge.
    2. Check whether Clear browsing data on close is enabled, as this may affect how session information is retained between restarts.

If the issue continues, please share:

    • Your Edge version.
    • Whether this happens after a normal restart, a Windows update, or an unexpected shutdown.
