Outlook (Web) inbox refuses to load inline images .

Hi all,

It was recommended that I post this issue here on the Microsoft Q&A forums. I initially posted this on r/Outlook, and while I received good feedback, the issue is still ongoing with no resolution to be seen.

Issue: Inline images from my inbox do not appear as they should. The images appear broken, however I am able to inspect the URL and grab the link. With that link, the image opens just fine in another tab. It appears just that the inline image rendering is broken, or assumes the linked image is broken.

I have noticed that the issue appears to only be occurring on on reddit.com image URLs. No other messages from other domains have broken inline images.

Steps I've taken to try and fix this:

Added reddit.com to the safe senders list.
I've tried turning off "Always use outlook service to load images", but the issue still occurs. I have since then turned this back on.

I've actually just identified the culprit, and it was a specific item in my Firefox settings.

Key Factors:

Firefox was the only browser that had this issue
Restarting Firefox in troubleshooting mode did not address the rendering error
Deleting every extension did not address the rendering error either

What triggered the rendering error:

Once I switched my Site Trackers settings in Firefox to standard, rather than strict, the issue went completely away and images are rendering once again.

So, the issue has been resolved, it just boiled down to a particular Firefox site tracking issue, NOT an Outlook specific issue.

Based on your testing, since the issue only occurred in Firefox and was resolved after switching the Site Tracking/Enhanced Tracking Protection setting from Strict to Standard, this appears to be related to Firefox’s privacy/tracking protection settings rather than Outlook Web itself.

Based on your description, since the image URL opens correctly in a separate browser tab but does not render inline in Outlook Web, the issue may be related to how Outlook Web is rendering certain Reddit-hosted images rather than a general image-blocking setting.

Please try these checks:

Open Outlook Web in an InPrivate/Incognito window and test the same email again.
Temporarily disable browser extensions such as ad blockers, privacy blockers, or script blockers.
Clear your browser cache and cookies for Outlook Web, then sign in again.
Test with another browser or another network.
Check whether the same email displays correctly in Outlook mobile or another Outlook client.

Also, I’m unable to open the sample images you shared from my side. If possible, could you please send the screenshots or affected sample image links through a private message?

Thank you for reaching out. Here's some interesting news:

I followed the steps that you provided.

Steps that were not successful:

Opening outlook incognito did not fix the issue

Disabling all extensions and scripts did not fix the issue

Restarting Firefox in troubleshooting mode did not fix the issue

Steps that were successful:

Opening Outlook in another browser (Safari) successfully renders the images

Outlook mobile successfully renders the images

It appears the issue may be isolated to my browser, Firefox. Despite turning off all of the extensions and restarting in troubleshooting mode, I am going to remove extension one by one and see if perhaps one of them is causing the issue.
